Ultimate Avengers This movie is loosely based off the Marvel comic The
Ultimates, and not so much the Avengers (the original series),
the New Avengers (the more recent series), or the Mighty
Avengers (the brand new series started in 2007). So right off the bat
comparisons between the comic and the animated movie have to be placed there,
on the correct comic version. The Good: Well if you read Ultimates (I did) then you'll see this follows much of the story in essense. Not completely, but that might end up too mature for the kids watching this flick at home. The movie does translate the story, the destability of this make shift team, and the threat they must conquer. The Bad: Well, they DID change the story, making the aliens a much more obvious threat than in the comic. The battles, while pretty awesome, weren't as dramatic. That's key. The comic series, the drama and character interaction is what made it work, while here the drama is toned down and the interaction minimalized. Oh, and I really would've thought Captain America to have a more commanding voice (see any Marvel video game with him in it, or even his appearance in the various X-Men cartoons for a better voice) The Ugly: Just the length of this flick (71 minutes). I know it's a cartoon feature film, but couldn't they push another 10-15 out for us? Oh, and what happened to Thor's beard? How Close to Perfect: 9/10 Honestly what do expect for a cartoon that
is translating one year's worth of story into film, rather than face the task
of 40 years? It's hard to mess it up too badly, though they have faults. If
they made this film more mature (like the comic) maybe we would've seen more
accuracy and less divergance from the source material. But still, it works
well and pretty accurate for what it is.
