The Last Christmas

Gerry Duggan & Brian Posehn(writers), Rick Remender & Hilary Barta(art), Michelle Madsen(colors)

From the Cover: Just reviews.

What it is: It's the apolcaypse, baby. The bombs have dropped, the population either living like survivalists, roving gangs, or mutated into zombies and/or mutants (without the cool powers though), and Santa is real. The premise is Santa Claus meets spagetti western meets apolcayptic future, and that's what it is.
The story: It's the end of the world (as we know it), and Santa has been struggling to continue on. Especially now after some raiders kill Mrs Claus. At that point he just gets plum suicidal. That would be fine and dandy except Santa can only die when children (ALL children) stop believing in him. And one still does.
What's next is perverse, morbid, violent, and funny. It's the Last Christmas, and Santa is coming to town.

What I think: My girlfriend cringed when she saw this comic, which meant I should love it. I dug the premise of it all; it's the thing I go for sometimes. However I'm not a fan of the art. Oh, the art tells the story and translates the vision the writers had in mind just fine. But I just don't like the art. I don't need to elaborate further on that.
Past that, I liked the story and I would like to see this as a movie on Comedy Central in the future. It's black humor, and it's the off-kilter stuff people like me like to read. I am that target audiance.

Final Word: This book is for those who don't maintain a child-like innocence when it comes to Santa Claus. This is for people who think Santa would kick some zombie-ass when the shit came down to it. Hell, if Santa is real he better be ready to scrape the bone chunks out of his boot treads. This is dumb humor, but purely of the morbid variety. I accept no less.
