Army of Darkness: Movie Adaptation

Sam Raimi & Ivan Raimi(writers), John Bolton (art)

From the Cover: Small blurb about John Bolton

What it is: Comic book adaptation of the Army of Darkness movie (more closely the UK release for those who keep track).
For those who haven't seen AoD it's like this: the third Evil Dead movie, this one where Ash (our hero) get's thrown back to mideival times where the deadites pose a bigger problem there than they do in his own time. And it's up to him to save the day (he is the chose one). So with his boomstick in one hand and a chainsaw for the other... stump he sets off to get the Necronomicon and go the fuck home. Action, comedy, blood, and some pillow talk, baby.

What I think: The art is damn near photorealistic for the most part, while the rest comes off very Barbarian Fantasty style (think Frank Frazetta). Not that I'm complaining. What I'm not digging is the changes from the movie. Some action is different, some settings changed, and events go down in a manner not-of the cinematic masterpiece which is AoD. Ok, but seriously things just seem too off. Yes, granted the new story parts, along with narration, actually explain a few things cut from the flick, but they also pull away from what makes the movie so fun to watch.
I feel myself going on a rant.
Where are all the cool one-liners? Some are there, sure, but the impact, the attack of every word in Bruce Campbell's delivery of each line is not there. I don't feel the cockiness and attitude in "the is my BOOM STICK!" in this written form.
Basically while this book has the story intact, and the art is spot on it lacks the movie's soul.
Guess that deadite bitch actually swallowed it.

Final Word: Watch the DVD, skip the book. Only for us hardcore "deadites".
